The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) is a specialized higher education institution, which trains artists for a professional career in music, theatre, dance, cinema and is located in the capital city Vilnius. Founded in 1933, currently LMTA trains about 900 students, delivers around 25 study programs of the first and second cycle and doctoral studies in arts.
Teaching staff are internationally recognized musicians, theatre, dance and film professionals. Each year over 60 master classes are given by the visiting professors mainly from Europe as well as from Australia, Japan, Israel, New Zealand, and USA.
The Academy operates on the basis of two faculties, namely the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Theatre and Film (FTF). The FTF provides studies at BA and MA level in Theatre Arts (Acting and Directing), Dance (Classical and Contemporary), Film Arts (Film Directing, Cinematography, Screenwriting), Sound Design, History and Critics of Stage Arts and Cinema and Arts Management.
One of the most outstanding characteristics of the the Faculty of Theatre and Film is its hive-like dynamic atmosphere, where diverse projects coexist and thrive one next to the other. Such events vary from contemporary playwriting festival Dramokratija to experimental theatre competition Balkono okupacija.
The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre operates in 6 buildings and has two venues for theatre events: Balcony theatre (up to 150 seats) and Teatro cechas (up to 100 seats).

LMTA authorities are convinced that all international activities effectively enhances the study experience and gives students the possibility of switching from regular scholar teaching to independent learning by themselves. The Theatre and Film Faculty (FTF) encourages teachers and students to participate at international cooperative projects. In the past years, FTF implemented artistic research projects such as “Playing identities, performing Heritage. Theatre, Creolization, Creation and the Commons”, “Entrepreneurial Challenges in Theatre Higher Education Curricula”, Norteas project “Sustainable Theatre Artist”, “Actor Training in Globalized World”, “Polart Circle”.
LMTA is part of these international organizations and unions:

*Norteas (network of Nordic and Baltic Performing Arts institutions in higher education) encourages exchanges between Baltic and Nordic schools
