The Theaterakademie August Everding was founded in 1993 by the famous stage director August Everding with the aim of teaching theatrical professions in a real working theatre environment. It is administered and financed by the Bavarian Ministry of Arts and Sciences and offers eight study programmes: Acting, Opera Performance, Musical Performance, Stage Directing, Dramaturgy, Scenography and Costume Design, Wigs, Make-up and Special Make-up Effects for Stage and Screen, and Theatre, Film and Television Criticism. The study programmes are organised in collaboration with Munich’s four universities.
About 200 students are enrolled. The programme, which is taught by renowned professional artists and teachers, is interdisciplinary and closely combines theory and practical training and provides various performance opportunities. The students of all study programmes participate together in about 40 productions each year, altogether there are more than 100 performances on the professionally equipped stages of the Prinzregententheater (1070 seats) and the Akademietheater (72 until 196 seats).
The Theaterakademie August Everding enjoys a fruitful exchange and cooperation with a number of theatres such as Metropoltheater München, Kammerspiele München, Residenztheater München, Münchener Biennale für neues Musiktheater and Staatstheater Nürnberg.
The cooperation with international partners is an essential aspect. The Theaterakademie August Everding is member of the international networks E:UTSA (Europe: Union of Theatre Schools and Academies), PLETA (Platform of European Theater Academies) and ENOA (European Network of Opera Academies). Its performances are invited to international theatre festivals such as (in 2017) to the FACT Festival in Budapest or to the Festival International des écoles supérieures d’Art Dramatique in Rabat, Morocco.

The Theaterakademie August Everding realizes student exchanges with specific partner academies, preferably within the networks of E:UTSA and PLETA. Since 2018 the Theaterakademie is part of the Erasmus programme and is now able to establish partnerships with universities and academies in a larger context. Additionally it offers short term visits to participate in particular workshops, seminars and classes.
The Theaterakademie works on a regular basis and for specific projects/productions with around 35 international partners like academies, festivals, international organisations (Goethe-Institut, for example) and others.
