The University of the Arts (Uniarts) in Stockholm


Stockholm University of the Arts (Uniarts) provides education and conducts research in the fields of circus, dance, film, media, opera and performing arts. With our unique composition of education and artistic research, we want to create new opportunities for societal development and knowledge of tomorrow.

Stockholm University of the Arts was established in 2014 when the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts, DOCH the School of Dance and Circus and the University College of Opera merged. We have about 500 students and 250 employees. All departments offer programmes at first-cycle and second-cycle levels.

In June 2016 Uniarts became the first university of the arts in Sweden to be granted the right to award degrees at third-cycle level.

Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (SADA) provides education and conducts research in the fields of film, radio, television, theatre and other performing arts and has three departments – The Department of Film and Media, The Department of Performing Arts and The Department of Acting.


The number of students varies between about 250 and 300 per year.

We offer 22 Bachelor’s programmes, a number of courses, and one-year and two-year Master’s programmes.

The number of teachers at SADA amounts to about 120

DOCH has three departments – Dance Pedagogy, Circus and Dance. About 55 permanently employed teachers and a very large number of visiting lecturers. We have about 200 students from more than 20 countries.

The University College of Opera has about 20 teachers, 40 students and 3 doctoral students.

Uniarts welcomes international students to experience academic studies and student life at a university with of variety of educations within the field of Art.

Inbound exchange students

Uniarts offers incoming students from other universities the possibility to study for shorter or longer periods of time at one of our departments. Exchanges usually take place within one of the following programmes:

You are welcome to apply to Uniarts, even if you are not taking part in an exchange programme. In this case we ask you to find the course or programme you are interested in through the Uniarts search engine. There you can read about the admission criteria and the application procedure for the particular education you are interested in.
